Sometimes in life your bff just nails it. As in not only in being a good listener without judgement and loving you with your flaws and all, but also in literally nailing and painting your motto for 2017 on a sign.
In September for my 35th birthday, my best friend of 23 years, Kelsey, painted and made me this sign. She had asked me what verses or songs or phrases were on my heart lately, so I shared with her the words of an #AbbaLongtoYou spontaneous worship song I found on YouTube. I made this my 2017 anthem because in 2016 life got pretty complicated and I can lean on the lyrics.

I love how #SteffanyGretzinger and #CoryAsbury (#Bethel) begin this song with a declaration and how they just flow through it with one repeating phrase all the way to the end. You can just feel the reassurance in their cadence that they were made for something… to bring Him glory. Here is the song:

Such a simple song. One simple phrase.
Simple. on most days.
If it’s all the simple life of rainbows and gold bars for you right now, we can’t be friends. Kidding. But, really, feel free to stop reading at about this point. Go have a donut for me. And save this song and post for another day.
But if you’re like me, life isn’t always easy breezy or simple on some days. Maybe you’re facing those trials you read that we as believers would face in the bible. Well, truth be told, coming from a Jesus girl, on some days this song’s simple lyrics are the only prayer I can muster to pray, the only reminder I can turn to that I’m here for something, and my only motivation to get out of bed.
Of course it’s not all always terrible or difficult, there are plenty of silver linings and abundant blessings, as there is much to give Him praise. And I do. But am I right that life is not always a picnic either?
the marriage. the job. the family. the kids. the complicated relationships. the finances. the health issues. the monotony. the roller coaster of emotions. the demands. the enemy.
I can’t be the only one who is in the thick of it. You know, when you are one obstacle, one trial, one failure, away from quitting the hard stuff of life? Adulting is hard. Parenting is hard. Working is hard. Ministry is hard. Relationships are hard. Illness is hard. The enemy is hardpressed to derail us in our faith. Sometimes it feels all too hard and all too consuming.
Whatever your hard thing is right now, whatever feels like too much to do or too much to bear, please know you are not alone.
Because. His love. His compassions. His faithfulness. His word.
He never fails, even in deep waters.
“Because of the Lord ʼs great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23 NIV

You’re also not alone in having to remind yourself in the trials that you are indeed made for this… to be a godly wife, a good mother, a spiritual sister, a faithful servant, a cheerful giver, a hard worker, a vessel for a purpose greater than you. The challenge of wearing all those hats can sometimes lead us to wondering …was I truly made for this? Am I doing anything that truly brings Him glory? And maybe you’re like me, and you just “should all over yourself” all.the.time.
So if you’re at this crossroad and wondering should you, could you… wondering if you are enough… anxious to know the “what next” and “why” of your life… asking “can I do this” or “am I even qualified or capable”…
I hear you. He hears you.
I believe you are right where He needs you: in the laundry room, in the office, on the mission field, married or single, with kids or longing for some, with family or with only a church family, broke or able to give much, serving or seeking, healthy or not well. You are right where He needs you in the daily things, in the cubicle, in the kitchen, behind the scenes or in the spotlight… No matter where you are… the Lord has gone before you in this life, and He has made a path for you to fulfill your purpose: to bring Him glory in all things. All your things.
In all you do for Him in your not so simple life, He will call you, lead you, bless you, comfort you, provide for you, and He will in fact equip you. Ask Him. Because you are enough, what you do is enough, because whatever God has called you to do, He is there. He is completely faithful to give you whatever you need to accomplish the tasks He has given you to do for His glory.
“May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together—spirit, soul, and body—and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. The One who called you is completely dependable. If he said it, he’ll do it!”1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 MSG
We were created in the image of God designed for the glory of God. It says in 1 Chronicles 16:9-10 , “Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.”
This is why we have to stop should-ing our day away and instead our “should” each day needs to be to “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before him. Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.” 1 Chronicles 16:29 NIV
In other words, in the good times and in the hard times, when you have everything to give or nothing at all, when you are bedridden or running miles, when you are surrounded by friends or loving your enemies, when you have the answers or are in the waiting; it’s time to come before Him in worship, to sing this song as an offering, and to truly believe …

Lord, Help me to remember I was created in your image. You say I’m fearfully and wonderfully made. I want to walk boldly into the season you have for me to give You glory and to tell Your story. Thank you for equipping me. I praise You and give You all the glory. Amen
